Pistons on general production lines are cylindrical. Depending on the operating standards and regulations of different diesel engines, the piston itself has various structures. Generally speaking, piston gadgets are divided into three parts: the top, the journal, and the piston pin seat. The top refers to the top of the piston and part of the spindle.
Pistons on general production lines are cylindrical. Depending on the operating standards and regulations of different diesel engines, pistons themselves have various structures. Generally, piston components are divided into three parts: the top, the skirt, and the piston pin boss. The top refers to the top of the piston and part of the piston crown.
Piston Production Line
The top of the piston in the production line is involved in regulating the engine combustion chamber. A dome-shaped or near-dome design for the top helps reduce the total contact area between the piston and high-temperature steam, ensuring even stress distribution. Most gasoline engines use sloped-top pistons, while some diesel engines improve ignition efficiency and reduce combustion and explosion levels for better gas mixing. The piston crown must have a complex appearance and include a recess of a certain depth as part of the engine combustion chamber.
The groove on the piston in the production line is called the piston skirt and is used to install the piston rings. The function of the piston rings is to seal, preventing steam leakage and preventing engine oil from entering the combustion chamber. The piston skirt is the next part of the piston; its function is to maintain the piston's vertical posture as much as possible during repeated movements, that is, the guiding part of the piston.
The design of the piston skirt on the production line is critical, especially for passenger cars and other light-duty new energy vehicles. Designers often consider the piston skirt when considering the structure and characteristics of the diesel engine to make the diesel engine as compact and stable as possible.
The piston pin boss on the production line, based on the connection between the piston pin and the crankshaft connecting rod, is the part that supports the piston and is located at the top of the piston skirt. A unique feature of the piston pin boss in high-speed diesel engines is that the pin bore may not be on the same centerline plane as the piston but may be slightly offset to one side.
In the production line, when the piston is operating, the piston contacts one side of the cylinder wall with an offset. In this way, after the piston changes position to the bottom dead center, the piston's contact with the cylinder wall will be reduced, thereby reducing the noise of the diesel engine.
